About JMB

JMB is a global marketer, packer, and shipper of premium asparagus and packaged sweet corn. As one of the largest year-round suppliers of asparagus, we take pride in our long-standing relationships with growers, which allow us to provide our customers with quality asparagus. We have also been a long-time marketer and pioneer of fresh packaged sweet corn, specifically in the value-added sector.

To this day, we operate based on the same values that founded our company over 130 years ago: to deliver the best produce at the best value to our customers. Jacobs, Malcolm & Burtt and the success of its growers has been one of a partnership built on what each is good at: the grower producing a quality crop and Jacobs, Malcolm & Burtt selling at a price that provides the most money back to the grower. We provide growers with funds to enable them to develop and plant fields, build packing sheds and cold storage facilities and buy equipment. By partnering with growers, instead of growing ourselves, we return money back to the local economy of the grower.

Jacobs, Malcolm & Burtt and our growers believe this is the best way to achieve success and deliver the highest quality products to the consumer.

History

JMB was formed as a grower/shipper/wholesaler in 1888 and was incorporated in California in 1926. In the 1950s, our efforts shifted to our wholesale business in the San Francisco, CA produce markets.

In the 1960s, JMB ownership transferred to the Rolandelli family, headed by Leo Rolandelli. During the 1970s, Leo started working with asparagus growers to develop and promote the asparagus industry, which lead to asparagus being JMB’s main focus.

The 1990s brought a major development to JMB’s business. During this time, we partnered with GloriAnn Farms to create the first-of-its-kind packaged sweet corn offerings. We remained partners in this effort through 2009, after which we went our separate ways.

In 2012, we decided to cease wholesale operations and concentrate on our shipping business. We currently ship over 4,000,000 cases of asparagus and over 100,000 cases of packaged sweet corn every year.
